    Grand Park Visitors

It came to my attention this weekend that Grand Park is really in bad shape. In particular I am referencing the area above the fountain where the walkways lead you up the hill. My brother in law and sister were walking their dog through the park this weekend and noticed that there are many broken fixtures ( same problem as when I was on the park and rec) and lots of graffiti and trash along the pathways. Some of this graffiti is quite obscene and I was really upset to hear that it has been there for weeks! What is going on and what is AVCA and the city doing to correct all of this?

As you know, I was one of a few that was in favor of security cameras in some of the parks and I still feel that Grand Park is one that really should have some type of 24 hour surveillance. There are small gangs of guys hanging out who may or may not live here, broken glass and exposed wiring, graffiti, trash strewn about and weeds growing out of the cracks. It takes the pleasantness out of the experience when you look around and see this kind of thing. What kind of an impression does it make on the residents and children to see phallic graffiti in our town center? Is it safe for our residents to walk on this path in the evenings? What about all the condos that Shea built, you can imagine many of those people bought those homes thinking they could walk down into Town Center via Grand and the park, but look what they are walking through, not what you think of when you think of our town.

I am going to take a walk through that park tomorrow to take some photos. I would appreciate if you could get this email forwarded to the proper authorities to get the graffiti removed as soon as possible, and if the person who is leading the Park and Recreation Committee could please pay some serious and immediate attention to this ongoing problem, it would be appreciated by all of the residents, especially those with young children who frequent the park.

I thought I had heard that there was going to be some bicycle patrol in the park this summer. If not, there should be. Perhaps it's time to give some serious thought to solving this problem instead of just using bandaids for a temporary fix. The fixtures there need to be changed to something that can't be continually destroyed. We need 24 hour surveillance. We cannot allow our community parks to take on this atmosphere. It just isn't what we are all about.

I suggest you light this park up much brighter than it is now. The dark areas have and are still attracting the wrong kind of people to this wonderful park.

It seems like every cement surface has writing on it. It looks like kids are using magic markers. I have called the phone number on this web site, but I always get voicemail.

There is so much garbage and broken glass on the cobblestone path going up through Grand Park to the kids play area. I would ask that everyone pick up after themselves, and understand that kids are often bare foot, and could be harmed by the broken glass, so please be aware.

Thanks for this website, I just discovered it. As a AvCa association tax payer, I am concerned. Something needs to be done with this great park. There is still trash all along the walkways up the hills. Can't we atleast post "No-Littering" signs? I agree with the posts above that we need some kind of survelience, cameras would be great and more lighting. This should be our showcase park and people should always feel comfortable walking through it. I would love to volunteer and help pick up some trash only if this isn't frowned upon. This is such a beautiful park and if anything we should take resources from less visible parks to clean Grand Park up. It should be spotless.

What a beautiful park for the Halloween Parade. Everything looked great, except there were some marshy areas that seemed muddy. Is the city over watering the grass? Someone please look into this.

The foot path from Town Center up to the park is frequently littered with broken glass and debris. It's bad enough for people to have to see this, but it is a danger to those who walk their dogs along the path.

There is a lot of graffiti that needs to be removed at the upper part of the walkway that needs to be removed. Also, 2 light fixtures near the same area are damaged by vandals. The words are not suitable for young children to see!
